iPhone Battery Drain Issues

Setting up an automation is a great "set it and forget it" trick. It ensures your phone starts saving power exactly when you need it without you having to remember to toggle it on.

Here is how to set it up using the built-in Shortcuts app:

Step-by-Step Automation

  1. Open the Shortcuts App: This is a default Apple app. If you can't find it, swipe down on your home screen and search for "Shortcuts."

  2. Go to Automation: Tap the Automation tab at the bottom center of the screen.

  3. Create New Automation: Tap the + (plus sign) in the top right corner.

  4. Select Battery Level: Scroll down the list of triggers until you find Battery Level and tap it.

  5. Set the Threshold:

    • Slide the bar to your preferred percentage (e.g., 30% or 40%).

    • Select Falls Below [X]%.

    • Choose Run Immediately (this skips the annoying "Ask Before Running" notification) and tap Next.

  6. Add the Action:

    • Search for "Set Low Power Mode".

    • Tap it so the action says "Turn Low Power Mode On."

    • Tap Done.

Why this helps

By triggering Low Power Mode at 30% or 40% instead of the default 20%, you stretch those middle percentages much further. It automatically reduces:

  • 5G usage (switching to 4G where possible).

  • Screen brightness.

  • Auto-lock time (sets it to 30 seconds).

  • Background email fetching and app refreshes.

[!TIP] You can also create a second automation to Turn Low Power Mode Off when the battery Rises Above 80% if you want your phone to return to full performance automatically once it's charged.
